Overview

Wirex is a multi-currency account with a Visa card that supports 150+ traditional and crypto currencies in one app. It is positioned heavily at travellers, with in-app exchange and free international ATM withdrawals up to a limit.

Its Cryptoback rewards reach up to 8%, but the higher rates require staking WXT, Wirex's native token — the familiar trade-off where the headline number depends on locking up an exchange asset.

💡 Key Takeaway: Wirex shines for frequent travellers needing multi-currency flexibility; the top Cryptoback rate is realistic only with meaningful WXT staking.

Pros & Cons

✅ What We Liked

  • Up to 8% Cryptoback rewards
  • Multi-currency account, 150+ currencies
  • Free international ATM withdrawals (to a limit)
  • Strong in-app exchange with tight spreads
  • No monthly fee on standard plan
  • Good fit for travel spending

❌ What Could Be Better

  • Top Cryptoback tier requires WXT staking
  • WXT price volatility affects effective rewards
  • Premium plans add monthly costs
  • Customer support response times vary

Security

Wirex uses multi-signature wallets, 2FA, and is regulated in multiple jurisdictions. Visa zero-liability fraud protection applies. Card freeze and spend controls are available in-app.

Our Hands-On Experience

The multi-currency account is the real star — holding and switching between fiat balances while travelling removed the usual FX friction.

Cryptoback posted as expected. To get past the entry rate you must commit to WXT, which is a market-exposure decision rather than a free perk.

Support was functional but slower than the exchange-backed cards during testing.

Final Verdict

8.6/10

Strong multi-currency travel card with high Cryptoback — gated behind WXT staking.

For travellers who want one account spanning many currencies plus high crypto rewards, Wirex is a compelling package. The WXT staking requirement for top Cryptoback keeps it out of our very top tier, but the multi-currency travel use case is best-in-class.
